Part D Drug Plans Help for North Bergen

Part D is the part of Medicare that helps pay for prescriptions. You can get it as a stand-alone plan alongside Original Medicare and a Medigap policy, or built into most Medicare Advantage plans. Either way, each plan has its own list of covered drugs, called a formulary, and its own network of pharmacies.

The drug list is where people get surprised. One plan may place your blood pressure pill on a low tier and another may not cover it at all. That is why we start every Part D conversation with your actual medicines, not the monthly premium.

What Part D Costs Look Like

Plans can charge a deductible before they start paying. For 2026 the highest deductible a plan can set is $615, and for 2027 it rises to $700. Many plans charge less or nothing for low-tier drugs.

The bigger change in recent years is the yearly cap. In 2026, once you have spent $2,100 out of pocket on covered drugs, you pay nothing more for covered drugs for the rest of the year. For 2027 that cap is $2,400. Covered insulin costs no more than $35 for a month's supply.

If paying a large amount early in the year is hard, the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread your drug costs into monthly bills. It does not lower the total, but it can smooth out the budget.

How We Compare Drug Plans

  • We enter each drug with its exact dose and how often you fill it
  • We check the tier, quantity limits, step therapy and prior authorization rules
  • We price the year at the pharmacy you use, whether that is a chain on Bergenline Avenue or a mail-order service
  • We show the total yearly cost, not just the premium

The result is a short list ranked by what you would really pay. If two plans are close, we talk through other details, such as how easy each insurer's mail order is to use.

Penalties and Help With Costs

If you go 63 days or more without Part D or other creditable drug coverage after your first chance to enroll, Medicare adds a late penalty to your premium for as long as you have drug coverage. If you have coverage from a job or union, keep the yearly letter that says whether it counts as creditable.

People with limited income may qualify for Extra Help from Social Security, which lowers premiums and copays. New Jersey also runs PAAD and Senior Gold for residents who meet income rules. Learn more on our help paying for Medicare page.

Review Every Fall

Drug lists and prices change every January. Your plan's Annual Notice of Change letter, which arrives by the end of September, lists what is changing. Bring it to your annual plan review and we will check each of your medicines again.

Part D Drug Plans Questions

Do I need Part D if I take no medicines right now?

Many people still enroll in a low-cost plan to avoid the late penalty and to be covered if a new prescription comes up. We can show you the lowest-cost options.

Can I use any pharmacy in North Bergen?

Each plan has a network, and some pharmacies are preferred with lower copays. We check your pharmacy for every plan we compare.

What if my drug is not on the plan's list?

You can ask the plan for an exception, switch to a covered alternative with your doctor, or pick a different plan during an enrollment period. We help you weigh those options.

Does the $2,100 cap include my premium?

No. The cap counts what you pay for covered drugs, such as deductibles and copays. Monthly premiums are separate.
